George Russell Wins The Singapore Grand Prix, Ahead Of Max Verstappen In P2 & Lando Norris In P3
At the Singapore GP, George Russell dominated the race after converting his pole position into a victory. Max Verstappen finished second, outpacing both McLaren drivers. Lando Norris secured P3 and Oscar Piastri claimed P4, sealing McLaren’s 2025 Constructors’ Championship with six rounds to go.
Race Start
George Russell made a clean start and defended his lead into Turn 1. Behind him, Verstappen and Norris battled fiercely for position. Norris clipped Verstappen’s rear wing and later pushed past teammate Piastri to secure third place.
The aggressive move prompted a frustrated radio comment from Piastri, saying, “That wasn’t very team-like.” After the race, Norris defended his actions. George Russell explained that he misjudged his distance to Verstappen but insisted there was nothing intentionally wrong.
Norris admitted he would review the incident and learn from it. He emphasised avoiding contact with his teammate in future races. Meanwhile, Russell stretched his advantage and won comfortably by 5.430 seconds.
Red Bull used an alternate tyre strategy, starting Verstappen on softs before an early pit stop. This forced him to defend against Norris for much of the race. Verstappen held firm to finish second, while Norris settled for third place.
Top 10
Kimi Antonelli claimed fifth for Mercedes, adding valuable team points. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finished P6 and P7, respectively. However, Hamilton received a five-second penalty for repeatedly leaving the track without a justifiable reason dropping him to P8.
That penalty promoted Fernando Alonso to P7 in the final classification. Oliver Bearman earned ninth for Haas, while Carlos Sainz recovered to finish tenth. McLaren only needed 13 points to clinch the title and comfortably achieved it.
Constructors Championship
The result puts McLaren in a massive 325-point lead over Mercedes in the standings. This marks their first back-to-back constructors’ titles since 1991. Piastri leads the drivers’ championship by just 22 points over Norris, with Verstappen 63 points adrift.
Formula 1 now heads to the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. The event will take place from October 17 to 20. Fans can expect another thrilling round in the fight for the 2025 Drivers’ Championship.
