H2 Inspired Supercharged Kawasaki S2 Is Ninja 650 Replacement

Kawasaki could reveal the new R2 and S2 motorcycles at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show and are expected to feature the supercharged technology and styling from the H2R and H2.

The R2 is rumoured to be a lower spec version of the Kawasaki Ninja H2

The Kawasaki H2 and H2R arrived last year and the supercharged bikes were quickly catapulted to the iconic status courtesy of the immensely sophisticated tech involved. No matter how desirable it may sound, it is hard to fathom that the Japanese manufacturer will roll another supercharged motorcycle down its assembly line soon, but a new report suggests otherwise. As per Japanese magazine ‘Young Machine’, famous for their renderings and nearly true predictions, Kawasaki is working on the R2 and S2 supercharged motorcycles that are inspired from the H2’s tech.

Kawasaki had originally registered the ‘R2’ moniker back in 2013 and speculation was widespread that its new hyper machine would get the nameplate. However, the H2R and H2 arrived debunking those rumours. It was pretty much forgotten since then, but the latest speculation with the above rendering conveys that the R2 could be lower spec version of the H2 with a more reasonable price tag.

The source further suggests that Kawasaki is working on the S2 as well, which will draw power from a 650cc supercharged parallel-twin motor. The new S2 would compete against the production spec version of Suzuki’s Recursion concept that is said to use turbocharged technology on a 588cc parallel-twin engine. The S2 could also replace the ageing Ninja 650 in Kawasaki’s middle-weight line-up. If true, it will help Kawasaki spread development costs across several models, making the supercharged technology more attainable.

It is believed that Kawasaki could showcase the new supercharged bikes at the upcoming 44th Tokyo Motor Show scheduled to commence on 29th October, probably in concept form and could make it to dealerships by next year. With just a few days left for the motor show to start, we have enough reasons to keep you guys glued to every development that will unfold.
