Hyundai to launch 5 new electric cars in India in the next 8 years

Hyundai Motor Group is set to launch five new electric cars in India by 2032. The move is part of the company’s strategic expansion plans, as announced during the recent visit of Executive Chair Euisun Chung to India.

With a focus on electrification and capitalising on India’s rapidly growing automotive market, Hyundai aims to be at the forefront of the country’s EV ecosystem.

Hyundai claims these upcoming EVs will cater to the diverse needs of Indian consumers while prioritising sustainability and efficiency.

Compact EV Revolution – One of Hyundai’s strategic moves involves introducing a compact EV optimised for the local market by 2025. We believe this will be the new Creta based electric vehicle that is currently being tested with the prototype based on the current model on sale.

Diverse EV Portfolio – Beyond compact EVs, Hyundai’s approach extends to a gradual rollout of various EV models and Purpose Built Vehicles (PBVs). This diverse portfolio will ensure that Indian consumers have a range of options to choose from. Currently they have two electric cars on sale – Kona EV and Ioniq 5.

Charging Infrastructure Development – Recognising the importance of a robust charging infrastructure for the mass adoption of EVs, Hyundai is preparing to expanding the number of EV charging stations. By 2027, the company plans to establish 439 EV charging stations.

Apart from this, Hyundai Motor India Engineering (HMIE) will expand its role as a hub for future mobility research, including electrification, autonomous driving and the development of voice recognition technology in local Indian languages.

Kia too plans to produce small EVs optimised for the local market from 2025. The brand will then gradually offer various EV models and Purpose Built Vehicles (PBVs). The company will also develop EV charging infrastructure.

Kia plans to increase its market share in India from 6.7 percent in the first half of this year to 10 percent in the coming years. They also plant to expand their product portfolio and double its sales network from the current 300 locations.

Recently, Maruti Suzuki has also revealed its ambitious plans of introducing 6 new electric cars in India by 2031. They have set a goal to manufacture more than 1.5 million electrified vehicles by the end of the financial year 2031.
