Indian Motorcycle is rumoured to be working on an affordable bike for India, even as Polaris, its parent firm, is looking to radically upscale the bikemaker’s operations here in about two years’ time.
Ever since its entry into the market, the American bikemaker’s products have been sold through the CBU route. While that will not change for 2021, Polaris has stated that big things will happen for the bike manufacturer in a couple of years.
Rumours about the affordable bike from Indian Motorcycle product cannot be completely written off since other major international manufacturers are doing the same at the moment.
However, it is yet unclear if the affordable bike will be locally assembled, completely manufactured or contract manufactured in India. For now, the brand makes its products in the USA and will soon start production in Poland to cater to the European market.
With Harley-Davidson ceasing its manufacturing operations in India, Indian Motorcycle would only benefit if it begins production of bikes here.
Polaris also says that it will not be expanding its current dealer count in India, which stands at eight, in 2021, for it feels that it is sufficient of the type and number of motorcycles it currently sells.
Also, the firm has not made any investment into CKD operations because it says the gains on its exotic motorcycles would not be justifiable.
Until an announcement along the lines comes our way, we will have to wait. For the near future however, the brand will focus on launching its BS6-compliant range of motorcycles in our country.
