The Z650RS is expected to have an upright seating position

When Kawasaki released a short video titled ‘Retrovolution’ recently, it alluded to the new Z650RS

The Kawasaki Z650RS is likely to make its global debut soon. The Japanese firm had recently released a teaser video and now a type-approval document of the motorcycle has also been found.

Likely set to enter several global markets in 2022, the retro-style machine is expected to have styling similar to that of the Z900RS which was briefly on sale in India.

The leaked type-approval document has also revealed the motorcycle’s specifications, which is very similar to the Z650 on which it is based.

It will have the same trellis frame and exhaust as the Z650, but will be a taller, wider and longer than the middleweight naked machine, while the Z650RS’ 1405 mm wheelbase is 5 mm shorter.

Powered by a 649cc parallel twin, the document states that the Z650RS has a maximum power output of 68 PS at 8000 RPM and 64 Nm of torque at 6700 RPM, which is identical to the BS6 Z650’s power and torque figures.

With this power output, the retro-style motorcycle can hit a top speed of 191.5 km/hr, thanks in part to it being lighter than the Z650 which weighs 191 kg.

People in the UK with an A2 license and Europeans with similar restrictive licenses will be able to buy a 47 HP version of the bike as well.

Kawasaki is likely to introduce the motorcycle in India soon after its global launch takes place and, here, it is likely to be priced higher than the naked 650 which costs Rs. 6.24 lakhs (ex-showroom) at present.
