Kia India is preparing to introduce the all-electric version of the Kia Syros, with a launch expected in August this year. Once introduced, the Syros EV is set to become the brand’s most accessible electric offering in the Indian market.
The upcoming model will join the existing petrol and diesel-powered Syros lineup as a third powertrain option. It is expected to be based on the same K1 platform as its internal combustion counterpart, following the industry trend of adapting existing models for electric mobility rather than developing entirely new platforms.
Test mules of the Syros EV have already been spotted on Indian roads, although they were heavily camouflaged. Based on these sightings, the overall design is likely to remain largely similar to the ICE version, retaining its distinctive boxy proportions and tallboy stance. However, subtle EV-specific design elements are expected, such as revised front and rear bumpers, unique alloy wheels and a charging port located on the front fender.
Inside, the cabin layout is likely to mirror the standard Syros, with minimal structural changes. Feature additions could include EV-focused technologies such as vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) capabilities. Updates may also extend to EV-specific displays, as well as revised upholstery and trim options. It remains unclear whether advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) will be offered, especially considering their removal from the latest ICE version.
Technical specifications have not yet been confirmed, but the Syros EV is expected to feature a front-wheel-drive setup. Given that the K1 platform also underpins the global Inster EV, which offers battery packs of 42kWh and 49kWh, similar capacities could be considered for the India-spec model.
The Syros EV’s launch timeline appears to have shifted slightly, with its debut now expected around six months later than initially anticipated. Despite the delay, it will still arrive within a relatively short period following the launch of the ICE-powered Syros.
In terms of pricing, the Syros EV is expected to fall in the Rs. 15 lakhs to Rs. 20 lakhs (ex-showroom) bracket. It will compete in a rapidly growing segment against models such as the Tata Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.
