Kia Syros HTK EX

New Syros HTK (EX) adds LED lights and tech at lower price

Kia has expanded the Syros range with a new HTK (EX) variant positioned between the HTK (O) and HTK+ trims. The new grade is aimed at offering certain exterior and feature upgrades at a more accessible price point.

The HTK (EX) trim is priced at Rs. 9.89 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol manual and Rs. 10.64 lakhs for the 1.5-litre diesel manual. With this update, the Syros line-up now features seven trims in total – HTK, HTK (O), HTK (EX), HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and HTX+ (O) – with overall pricing ranging from Rs. 8.67 lakhs to Rs. 15.94 lakhs (ex-showroom).

Feature additions and equipment placement

One of the key introductions on the HTK (EX) is the availability of all-LED exterior lighting, including LED headlamps, DRLs and tail-lamps. Previously, these were offered from the HTX trim, meaning buyers can now access this lighting setup at a lower point in the range.

The turbo-petrol version of the HTK (EX) receives 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, while the diesel variant continues with the wheel design seen on the HTK (O).

Interior and infotainment

Inside, the HTK (EX) gets a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a semi-digital driver’s display, six speakers and a single-pane sunroof. Other features include manual AC with rear vents, auto-folding ORVMs with LED indicators, a rear parking camera and powered mirrors.

Safety equipment

The safety kit comprises six airbags, TPMS, hill-start assist, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and both front and rear parking sensors. A manually adjustable IRVM is also part of the package.

Powertrain details

The new trim is available only with manual transmissions and can be had with either the 120 HP 1.0-litre turbo-petrol or the 116 HP 1.5-litre diesel engine. No automatic gearbox option is offered at this level.

Market positioning

With the addition of the HTK (EX), Kia appears to be strengthening its mid-level variant mix within the Syros portfolio, offering features that were earlier placed higher in the lineup. The Syros competes against other sub-4m SUVs including the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kylaq and Kia Sonet.
