Lamborghini Celebrates 50 Years With Aventador Anniversario

The Italian performance carmaker, Lamborghini is ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show starting this Saturday with a new special edition Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 50 Anniversario. The automaker will build only 100 examples of the Aventador Anniversario, which is a faster version of the standard Aventador. The Aventador Anniversario gets specially painted in a bright yellow shade and the Italian automaker likes to call it as Giallo Maggio which is Italian for Yellow May.

The Aventador LP720-4 50 Anniversario also features a new black aero package including a front apron, new rear diffuser and side panels that give the Aventador an aggressive look. The company claims the body kit improves downforce efficiency by 50%, a tall claim indeed. The special edition Lamborghini rides on black alloy wheels and the exterior color combination of yellow and black can also be seen on the interiors that makes the supercar look sporty and distinctive.

The anniversary edition Aventador gets treated with a tweaked engine developing 20 HP more than the standard Aventador L700-4. The monstrous 6.5-litre V12 on the Lamborghini Aventador Anniversario produces a maximum power output of 720 PS and is capable of doing the 0-100 km/hr sprint in just 2.9 seconds with a flat out top speed of 350 km/hr. Further official details on the Aventador Anniversario will be out after the official unveiling at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show.

It has been 50 years since Automobili Lamborghini was founded starting its portfolio with the 1964 Lamborghini 350 GT, which was Lamborghini’s first mass production model. The 1964 Lamborghini 350 GT was powered by a 3.5-litre, 12-cylinder engine that was capable of a top speed of 250 km/hr.
