Mahindra launches XEV 9S as India’s first mass-market three-row electric SUV
Mahindra has introduced the XEV 9S, a new three-row electric SUV positioned as the country’s first mass-market seven-seater EV. Prices start at Rs. 19.95 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the entry Pack One Above 59 kWh version, making it Rs. 1.95 lakhs more affordable than the XEV 9e, with which it shares the INGLO born-EV platform. Test drives begin on December 5, while bookings open on January 14, 2026. Deliveries are scheduled to commence on January 23, 2026.
Design and Dimensions
The exterior takes cues from the XEV 9e and the earlier XUV.e8 concept, with a cleaner and more conventional design approach compared to the BE 6. It features a closed grille, connected DRLs, triangular LED headlamps and a long bonnet. The extended 2762 mm wheelbase and sizeable overhangs help maximise cabin and luggage space. At the rear, the styling is upright with smoked LED tail lamps.
The XEV 9S is marginally larger than the XEV 9e and has a ground clearance of 219 mm. Practicality highlights include a 527-litre boot with the third row folded and a 150-litre frunk. The SUV also carries Mahindra’s new “butterfly” emblem used on all INGLO-based products.
Interior and Features
Inside, the XEV 9S adopts a technology-focused layout with three screens across the width of the cabin – two in the front and additional entertainment screens for the second row. Higher variants offer an augmented-reality head-up display. An openable panoramic sunroof sets it apart from fixed glass roofs on other INGLO models.
Features include sliding and reclining second-row seats, connected-car functions, auto parking assistance, a driver drowsiness alert, a Harman Kardon audio system, multi-colour ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control and leatherette upholstery.
Battery Options, Range and Charging
Mahindra offers three battery pack choices: 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh. All support fast charging up to 175 kW.
- The 59 kWh version (Rs. 19.95 lakh) delivers an ARAI-certified range of 521 km.
- The 70 kWh variant (Rs. 24.45 lakh) offers 600 km.
- All 79 kWh models – priced between Rs. 21.95 lakh and Rs. 29.45 lakh – are rated at 679 km.
A 7.2 kW home charger costs an additional Rs. 50,000 while the 11.2 kW option is priced at Rs. 75,000. Performance figures are similar across the range, with 0-100 km/hr in 7 seconds for the more powerful versions and 7.7 seconds for the 59 kWh variants. The top speed is rated at 202 km/hr.

Rivals
