Maruti Brezza facelift testing hints at feature upgrades & potential underbody CNG
Recent spy shots confirm that Maruti Suzuki is preparing a facelift for its popular compact SUV, the Brezza. The current-generation model, launched in June 2022, is nearing the time for a mid-cycle refresh, with a potential market introduction around 2026.
The test mule, captured on Indian roads for the first time, suggests the updated Brezza will feature modest cosmetic and notable feature enhancements, while retaining the established powertrain options.
Exterior Styling Tweaks
Despite heavy camouflage, the rear three-quarter view of the test vehicle indicates subtle yet effective styling changes. The most apparent exterior update is the inclusion of new four-spoke, blacked-out alloy wheels. Additionally, the partially visible, reprofiled LED tail-lamps appear to be connected by an LED light bar with segmented sections, a design cue possibly inspired by the company’s Victoris model. Similar mild styling revisions are anticipated for the front fascia of the Brezza facelift.
Possible Underbody CNG Tank
An intriguing detail, though not confirmed visually in the images, is the claim that the spied model was a CNG variant featuring an underbody gas tank. If adopted, this design, also seen on the Victoris, would be a significant functional upgrade, allowing the CNG variants to offer boot space equivalent to the petrol-only models.
Cabin Refinements and Feature Expansion
While interior spy shots are not yet available, substantial changes to the cabin’s core design are not expected. Instead, the focus will likely be on minor cosmetic updates, such as a fresh colour scheme, revised trim pieces and potentially a new steering wheel, possibly borrowed from the Victoris.
More importantly, the feature list is set for a significant expansion to better compete in the rapidly evolving compact SUV segment. The Brezza facelift may gain:
- A larger infotainment touchscreen with updated software.
- A digital driver’s display.Ventilated front seats.
- Powered driver’s seat.
- Ambient lighting.
Furthermore, to rival newer competitors like the Kia Syros and new-gen Hyundai Venue, there is speculation that the Brezza facelift could be equipped with Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems), a technology recently introduced on the Victoris.
Powertrain Details
The engine specifications are expected to remain largely unchanged. The Brezza facelift will likely continue to be powered by the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which produces 103 HP and 137 Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
CNG variants will also be available, utilising the same 1.5-litre engine with a reduced output of 88 HP and 121.5 Nm in CNG mode, exclusively paired with the 5-speed manual gearbox.
Maruti Suzuki has the option of introducing the 1.0-litre ‘BoosterJet’ turbo-petrol engine from the Fronx. This sub-1200cc engine would qualify the compact SUV for a lower GST bracket (18 percent versus the current 40 percent), potentially leading to a more aggressive price point. However, it is currently unknown if the company will choose to offer this powertrain in the Brezza facelift.
Launch Window
A precise launch date has not been confirmed but considering the current model’s tenure, a market launch sometime in 2026 is considered a strong possibility.
