Maruti e Vitara secures 5-star Bharat NCAP rating with strong safety scores
The upcoming Maruti Suzuki e Vitara has secured a 5-star rating in the latest round of Bharat NCAP evaluations, achieving strong results in both adult and child occupant protection categories. This makes it the fourth Maruti model – after the Dzire, Baleno and Invicto – to be assessed under India’s updated crash safety programme. The electric SUV had earlier been awarded a 5-star rating by Euro NCAP as well.
In the Bharat NCAP assessment, the e Vitara registered 31.49 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection and 43 out of 49 points for child safety. The organisation tested the fully-loaded Alpha variant with a 61kWh battery, though the rating has been extended to the Delta and Zeta trims, which come with 49kWh and 61kWh battery options.
Adult Occupant Protection Results
The e Vitara demonstrated strong structural performance in both frontal and side impact scenarios.
- Frontal offset test: 15.49/16
- Side impact test: 16/16
The SUV offered “good” protection for the head, neck, pelvis, thighs and feet of the driver during the frontal test, while the chest and tibias were rated “adequate.” In side barrier and side pole evaluations, protection for all critical regions was assessed as “good.”
Child Occupant Protection Results
- Dynamic score: 24/24
- CRS installation: 12/12
- Vehicle assessment: 7/13
Both 18-month-old and 3-year-old child dummies travelled in rear-facing seats and achieved full marks in frontal and side-impact crash simulations. The reduction in vehicle assessment points brought the overall score to 43/49.
Safety Equipment
The e Vitara’s Alpha trim is equipped with seven airbags, ISOFIX mounts, TPMS, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera. It is also set to become Maruti Suzuki’s second model with Level-2 ADAS, following the Victoris.
With a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, the e Vitara enters the EV segment with one of the strongest safety performances recorded for a Maruti Suzuki model so far.
