Maruti Suzuki has inaugurated its new manufacturing facility at IMT Kharkhoda in Haryana. Spread across 800 acres, the plant has been developed with a planned investment of Rs 35,000 crore. The company says the facility currently has an annual production capacity of 5 lakh vehicles, which will be expanded to 10 lakh units in the future.
The plant was inaugurated through video conferencing by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi during the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum. The foundation stone for the project was laid in August 2022, making it Maruti Suzuki’s third manufacturing facility in Haryana after Gurugram and Manesar.
Maruti Suzuki has designed the Kharkhoda plant with a focus on sustainability. The facility currently meets its entire electricity requirement through renewable energy, including solar power and green energy procurement. It has an installed solar capacity of 20 MWp, which the company plans to increase to 70 MWp by 2030. Other initiatives include a biogas plant, a battery energy storage system, complete water recycling through zero liquid discharge operations, rainwater harvesting, an in-plant railway siding for vehicle dispatch and the use of collaborative robots in manufacturing.
Production at the Kharkhoda plant began in February 2025 with the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. The facility later started producing the Victoris as well. With the addition of this plant, Maruti Suzuki’s combined annual production capacity across its facilities in Gurugram, Manesar, Kharkhoda and Hansalpur now stands at 26.5 lakh units.
Speaking at the inauguration, Suzuki Motor Corporation President Toshihiro Suzuki said India has become an increasingly important manufacturing hub for the company. He added that the e Vitara, Suzuki’s first electric vehicle, is being produced exclusively at its Gujarat plant for exports to around 100 countries. According to the company, exports from India have also made Suzuki the largest importer of passenger vehicles into Japan.
