MG ZS EV Teased Prior To Launch In India

MG Motor India is going to launch its all-electric ZS EV SUV in India by the end of 2019.

The ZS EV claims to clock triple-digit-speed from a standstill in 8.5 seconds

The ZS EV is going to be MG’s second offering for the Indian market after the Hector. It is expected to be brought to our shores as a CKD and might cost around Rs. 21-23 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The India-bound specifications may vary, but the MG ZS EV sold in the United Kingdom is powered by a single electric motor, which produces 141 PS and 353 Nm of torque. This motor is supplemented with a 44.5 kWh lithium-ion battery set, which is reportedly claimed to reach its 80% bracket in just 43 minutes, given it’s a 50 kW fast charger. However, with a 7 kW charger, the charging time increases to 6-7 hrs. The electric car will do 0-100 km/hr in 8.5 seconds. The top speed will be electronically limited to 140 km/hr.

The British automaker is going to provide the car with over-the-air technology (OTA). Similarly, iSmart next-gen connected technology will be provided as well, to keep it updated. The design of the car will favour the overall aerodynamic efficiency just like we get to see in the Kona. The range is going to vary between 250-300 kms on a full charge.

MG, at present, has 120 sales and service outlets across India, which gives the brand a widespread reach. The ZS EV will be assembled locally at the brand’s Halol facility in Gujarat. Localisation and less GST rate at 5% mean the car will be priced competitively. The MG ZS EV is expected to be launched in December 2019. The car made its debut at the 2018 Guangzhou Motor Show.

Till the Nissan Leaf enters our market, the Hyundai Kona is the only rival of the MG ZS EV. The SUV is sold in the United Kingdom priced around Rs. 18,36,000/- to Rs. 20,07,000/-. Knowing that the Indians are still in a perplexing situation regarding proper charging infrastructure, maintenance costs and range anxiety, MG hopes to clear the air and educate people about the benefits of an electric vehicle.
