The first Ola electric car will be a compact urban commuter

Ola Electric is poised to set foot in the electric passenger car segment even as it is working on introducing its first electric scooter in the market.

The electric mobility firm has been open about its 2-wheeler project thus far and the first product to be launched by the brand would be an electric scooter known simply as the ‘Ola Scooter‘.

Details about is manufacturing facility dubbed ‘FutureFactory’ that is coming up in Tamil Nadu at an investment of Rs. 2400 crores have also been revealed by the firm.

In addition, just this past week, Ola Electric disclosed details about its Hypercharger network under which the brand plans to have, over the course of the next 5 years, over 1 lakh charging units across 400 cities in India.

It is at this juncture, news about the Ola electric car has surfaced. Reportedly, Ola wants to gain an early mover advantage in the country’s fledgling electric car space.

No concrete details are available about the brand’s electric car at present. But, it is said, the EV will be a compact urban runabout based on an electric skateboard platform with limited range that will be sold to both private and fleet customers at an attractive price point.

Furthermore, having brought in a few Tata designers to work on its electric car project, Ola Electric is also working on setting up a global design centre for its passenger vehicle division in Bengaluru.

When it comes where the electric car will be manufactured, the brand might build it at any of its proposed Bengaluru (26 acres), Mumbai (24 acres) or Delhi (20 acres) terminals.

Like many carmakers, Ola is expected to offer a home charging solution for its electric car, while its Hypercharger network is likely to feature separate car charging stations as well.

The Megablock, for now, will focus on producing electric scooters
