Skoda to launch mid-spec Kylaq variant between Classic and Signature trims

Skoda is preparing to introduce a new mid-level variant of Kylaq, strategically placed between the existing Classic and Signature trims. Aimed at closing the considerable feature and pricing gap between the two, this new variant is expected to launch by the end of the year, although the company has not confirmed an exact timeline.

Currently, the Classic variant offers a highly competitive entry point into the sub-Rs. 10 lakh segment, helping Skoda expand into a price-sensitive market. However, the Signature trim—priced roughly Rs. 1.51 lakh higher—adds a considerable list of features.

These include cruise control, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a 6.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wired phone mirroring, a cooled glovebox, rear AC vents, four speakers, a smartphone pocket for rear passengers and chrome door handles. The Signature also offers a six-speed automatic transmission, whereas the Classic is limited to a six-speed manual.

Both variants are powered by Skoda’s 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, which generates 118 BHP and 175 Nm of torque.

The Classic trim has helped bring in first-time Skoda buyers, with early demand skewing toward the lower end of the Kylaq lineup. This strategy reflects a wider industry trend where carmakers like Tata Motors and Hyundai have found success by offering tightly spaced variant options. Tata, for instance, has launched multiple iterations of the Nexon within a broad but focused price band, catering to varied customer needs.

By adding a mid-spec Kylaq, Skoda aims to retain customers who want better features than the Classic offers but find the Signature slightly out of reach. The move could make the Kylaq lineup more versatile and competitive in a tightly contested SUV segment.
