Tata Pixel

Tata Pixel, a car similar to Nano but with the addition of many advanced technological features is going to be showcased by Tata Motors at the upcoming 11th Auto Expo to be held in Delhi from 7th to 11th January, 2012. At just over three meters in lengths, Tata claims the Pixel is “the most package efficient four-seater in the world,” being able to “comfortably accommodate four adults”. The Tata Pixel is powered by a 1.2 litre 3 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that is mounted at the rear and drives the rear wheels. The car’s body has been optimized for low aerodynamic drag. Coupled with that, the car rides on special low resistance tires and features Stop-Start technology.

With all these features put in, the company claims that the Pixel can return an average fuel consumption of 3.4 litres/100 km with CO2 emissions of just 89 g/km. One of the key highlights of the Pixel is the Zero Turn System, which enables the car to manoeuvre it in city traffic and tight parking spaces. An Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT) assists rotation of the outer rear wheel forwards and the inner rear wheel backwards during low-speed maneuvers, with the result being a turning circle radius of just 2.6 meters. Keeping the parking space issue, Tata has also provided the Pixel with doors that open upwards. The car also comes with a feature called “My Tata Connect” that allows the user to connect using its smartphone or tablet PC and lets him control key car functions.
