Tata Punch facelift gains turbo engine, new features and remains competitively priced

Tata Motors has introduced the 2026 Punch facelift in India at a starting price of Rs. 5.59 lakhs (ex-showroom). This marks the first major update to the sub-compact SUV since its debut in 2021. Alongside design revisions, the facelift adds new features, safety updates and additional powertrain options. Bookings are now open.

Pricing and variants

The updated Punch is offered in six trims: Smart, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Accomplished and Accomplished+ S. A single-pane sunroof can be optioned on the Pure+ and Adventure variants for an additional Rs. 35,000. Despite the upgrades, the price increase at the entry level is modest when compared to the introductory pricing of the original model. Meanwhile, the turbo-petrol variant carries a moderate premium and gains extra equipment.

New turbo-petrol engine and AMT option for CNG

Addressing earlier feedback regarding performance, Tata Motors has added a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 120 HP and 170 Nm. Paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox, Tata claims a 0-100 km/hr time of 11.1 seconds. An automatic option is not available for this engine, likely to avoid overlap with lower trims of the Nexon.

The Punch continues to offer the existing 88 HP 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor and 73 HP petrol-CNG configuration. Both are now available with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT, the latter being new for the CNG variant.

Exterior updates align with Punch EV

Visually, the facelift draws inspiration from the Punch EV introduced in 2024. The front styling features vertically stacked LED headlamps and redesigned LED DRLs housed within gloss black trim. A revised bumper with silver inserts adds more definition.

The profile gets new 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, while the rear receives connected LED tail-lamps and an updated bumper with a faux silver skid plate. The colour palette now includes six shades, with four new introductions: Bengal Rouge, Caramel, Coorg Clouds and Cyantafic, along with Daytona Grey and Pristine White.

Tata claims 400 mm water-wading capability and 193 mm ground clearance. Boot space stands at 366 litres for petrol variants and 210 litres for CNG models.

Interior and features

The cabin layout remains familiar, retaining the black-and-white theme but adds a new 2-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo and a touch-enabled climate panel inspired by larger Tata SUVs. Seats now come with extendable thigh support for both front and rear occupants.

Feature additions include a 7-inch digital instrument cluster from the Altroz, a 360-degree camera system and an upgraded 8-speaker audio setup. The Punch also continues with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, auto climate control with rear vents, a 65W USB Type-C fast charger, cruise control and a single-pane sunroof.

Safety and Bharat NCAP rating

The Punch facelift is equipped with six airbags as standard, along with electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring, hill hold and descent control, ISOFIX mounts, auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and rear parking sensors. It has also achieved a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating for both adult and child occupants.

Positioning and rivals

The Punch facelift continues to compete in the sub-compact SUV space against the Hyundai Exter and Citroën C3, as well as lower variants of the Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.
