The Punch is set to get another engine option

Tata Punch turbo petrol launch is 4 months away by the look of things

Tata Motors is likely to launch the turbo petrol variants of the Punch small crossover in the fourth quarter (Q4) of the current financial year (FY22).

According to a recent development, the Tata Punch turbo petrol launch could take place around end of February 2022 or by early March 2022.

The turbo petrol engine is likely only to be offered in the ‘Accomplished’ and ‘Creative’ variants, while the base Pure and mid-spec Adventure grades could miss out.

Tata is expected to use the turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol motor that powers the Altroz iTurbo in the Punch too. It is likely that the turbo petrol variants of the crossover will come with the iTurbo suffix.

But, it is not yet known if Tata will tune the motor specifically to suit the Punch or offer the exact 110 PS and 140 Nm of torque that the Altroz iTurbo comes with.

Currently, Tata sells the Punch with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol engine making 86 PS and 113 Nm of torque. Its 5-speed manual transmission will be paired to the turbo motor too.

At present, the Punch costs between Rs. 5.49 lakhs and Rs. 9.39 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The turbo petrol Punch grades could cost by up to Rs. 80,000/- more than the corresponding NA petrol variants.
