Tesla India entry to happen with made in China cars.

Tesla Model S P100D Review
Tesla to import EVs to India from China

Just like how Apple products are assembled in China and sold in India. Similarly, Tesla will make its debut in India by importing cars from China. The American electric carmaker is setting up a production facility in Shanghai, China.

Tesla is setting up Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai which is spread over 210 acres. They have invested $2 billion to set up the new plant. It will produce battery cells and have an initial production capacity of 2,50,000 units annually for the Chinese market. Tesla Model 3 and Model Y cars will be produced at the factory in the first phase.

The phase 2 will ramp up the production to 5,00,000 units annually. For the time being, Tesla will initially introduce US manufactured models in India but the pricing will be on the higher side.

Recently Elon Musk too showed some interest with his Tweet for introducing Tesla to India. The Indian market currently doesn’t have many EV products but majority of the players are looking to launch EVs in the country.

Tesla has no plans to set up a manufacturing base in India as the country isn’t ready yet for the EV market and the incentives from the govt aren’t that attractive.
