Toyota is looking at the possibility of launching the Alphard and Hiace in India.

2019 Toyota Hiace
No homologation is required for CBU sales of upto 2500 units

Toyota had showcased the Hiace and Alphard in India at past Auto Expos but never had intentions of launching these vehicles. In 2018, the automaker was considering launching the Hiace but the plan got deferred due to currency fluctuation and other regulatory norms.

Toyota is now again studying the possibility of launching the Alphard and Hiace in India because the MPV market is huge and with the revised vehicle import norms in place, companies are no longer required to homologate CBUs if the sales numbers of the vehicles will be upto 2500 units.

The company is looking to introduce a lot of hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles in India and these two MPVs are also part of that plan. Toyota is looking at a timeframe of 12-18 months from now to introduce these models here. Toyota also stated that the high cost of importing technology is a hurdle which leads to high costs which can be offset only with huge volumes.
