Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella targets India’s midsize electric SUV market

Toyota has officially revealed the Urban Cruiser Ebella, marking its entry into India’s electric vehicle space. The new model, which shares its platform and fundamentals with Maruti Suzuki’s e-Vitara, will target the midsize EV SUV segment, positioning itself against the upcoming Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and VinFast VF6.

Powertrain and Range

The Urban Cruiser Ebella will be offered with two lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery options: a 49kWh pack paired with a 144 HP / 189 Nm motor and a 61kWh version producing 174 HP / 189 Nm. Toyota claims the larger unit delivers up to 543 km of driving range on the ARAI test cycle. With this EV, Toyota’s domestic portfolio now spans petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric models.

Design and Exterior

Styling similarities with the Maruti e-Vitara are evident, though Toyota has applied distinct touches including sharper triangular LED headlights with segmented DRLs, a smooth grille-less fascia framed by vertical air inlets and aero-optimised 18-inch wheels. The silhouette features heavy cladding, hidden rear door handles in the C-pillar and segmented tail lamps that skip the full-width connecting light strip.

Customers will get a choice of five monotone and four dual-tone paint schemes. Dual-tone combinations pair select body colours with a contrasting black roof.

Cabin and Features

Inside, the cabin layout and materials mirror its Maruti sibling with a familiar dashboard and seating arrangement. Key tech and comfort equipment includes a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, 12-colour ambient lighting and a JBL audio system.

Safety and Assistance Systems

Standard safety highlights include seven airbags and disc brakes on all four wheels. Equipment like a 360-degree camera, parking sensors, AVAS, and electronic parking brake with auto hold vary by trim. The top variant further adds a Level 2 ADAS suite featuring adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist.

After-Sales and Warranty Initiatives

To support new EV customers, Toyota is promising over 500 EV-ready service touchpoints nationwide. Buyers also get an 8-year warranty on the battery pack, access to a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) rental model and a 60 percent buyback value assurance scheme.
