Volkswagen Taigun facelift to debut with design, feature and gearbox updates
Volkswagen is set to unveil the updated Taigun on April 9, marking the first major revision for the midsize SUV since its launch in 2021. The MY26 facelift is expected to bring a combination of styling tweaks, feature enhancements and potential mechanical updates.
Recent spy images of the facelifted model, including near-production-ready test units, suggest notable changes to the exterior. The front end appears to adopt a more contemporary look, with slimmer LED headlamps connected by a light bar and an illuminated Volkswagen logo. The design direction seems to take cues from global models, accompanied by revised bumpers, a refreshed grille and updated tail-lamp detailing.
Inside the cabin, the Taigun is likely to receive updated upholstery and new trim finishes to enhance the overall look and feel. The equipment list could see additions such as a larger digital driver’s display and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Features like ventilated and powered front seats are expected to continue, while a panoramic sunroof is likely to be introduced for the first time. Improvements to air conditioning performance are also anticipated, potentially through the use of a revised compressor setup.
Under the hood, the Taigun facelift is expected to retain its existing engine options. These include a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit producing 115 HP and 178 Nm, as well as a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 150 HP and 250 Nm. Transmission options may see some changes, with the 1.0-litre variant potentially moving to a new 8-speed automatic gearbox in place of the current 6-speed unit. The 1.5-litre engine is expected to continue with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Pricing for the updated Taigun is likely to see a marginal increase over the current model, which is positioned between Rs. 11.42 lakhs and Rs .19.18 lakhs (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will continue to compete in the highly contested midsize SUV segment alongside models such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, Toyota Hyryder and others.
