Volvo reveals EX60 electric SUV with new platform and long-range options

Volvo has unveiled the EX60, a new electric midsize SUV that debuts the company’s SPA3 architecture. The model will be sold first in Europe with a US introduction planned later. The EX60 is positioned as the electric counterpart to the XC60 which continues as an ICE model in Volvo’s portfolio.

Visually the EX60 follows Volvo’s recent EV design direction with a closed-off front grille and split lighting signature that incorporates the familiar ‘Thor’s hammer’ DRLs. The body features smooth surfacing and slim LED tail-lamps at the rear. Wheel sizes range from 20 to 22 inches and the car uses illuminated wing-style door handles mounted on the window line. Customers can select between ‘Bright’ and ‘Dark’ exterior themes that differ in their use of silver or black accents.

For buyers wanting more capability Volvo will offer a Cross Country version of the EX60. It sits higher on its suspension by 20 mm and adds stainless steel skid plates matte cladding and a Frost Green paint option. This variant also gains adaptive air suspension with an off-road mode and a unique interior theme.

The cabin follows a layered design language with a dual-tone dashboard and physical controls on a two-spoke steering wheel. The EX60 uses a 15-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen running an Android-based operating system alongside an 11.4-inch digital display for the driver. Equipment on offer includes an electrochromic panoramic roof climate-controlled seats Apple CarPlay connected features Google Gemini AI assistant ADAS systems and audio setups ranging from a 21-speaker Bose unit to a 28-speaker Bowers & Wilkins package. Rear seats can recline and over-the-air updates are supported.

Volvo will offer three trims. The P6 Electric uses an 83kWh battery and a rear motor rated at 374 HP and 480 Nm. The P10 AWD pairs a 95kWh battery with dual motors for a combined 510 HP and 710 Nm. The top-spec P12 AWD features a 117kWh pack and dual motors that produce 680 HP and 790 Nm. WLTP range ratings are up to 620 km for the P6 up to 660 km for the P10 AWD and up to 810 km for the P12 AWD. The EX60 supports DC charging at up to 400kW which allows a 10 to 80 percent charge in under 20 minutes. AC charging at up to 22kW is also supported.

In overseas markets the EX60 will compete with models such as the BMW iX3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLC EV. Volvo has not confirmed Indian plans for the EX60 although the brand is expected to introduce the EX90 and ES90 EVs in the future.
