Yamaha launches retro-styled XSR155 at Rs. 1.50 lakhs with shared R15 engine
Yamaha Motor India has officially launched the much-anticipated XSR155, a neo-retro styled motorcycle that joins the brand’s 155cc lineup alongside the R15 and MT-15. Priced at Rs. 1.50 lakhs (ex-showroom), the XSR155 is positioned slightly below the MT-15, undercutting it by Rs. 5000.
The new XSR155 retains the mechanical foundation of its siblings, featuring the same 155cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that delivers 18.4 HP at 10,000 RPM and 14.1 Nm at 7500 RPM, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. It is built around Yamaha’s signature Deltabox frame, supported by an upside-down front fork and a rear monoshock setup. At 137 kg, the XSR is also lighter than the MT-15 by 4 kg. However, it has a lower ground clearance of 120 mm compared to the MT-15’s 170 mm.
The key highlight of the XSR155 lies in its design. Taking inspiration from Yamaha’s XSR series, it sports a round LED headlamp, a teardrop-shaped 10-litre fuel tank with Yamaha lettering, a circular LED tail lamp, and a single-piece flat seat. These elements give it a distinctive retro appeal, setting it apart from the more aggressive styling of the MT-15 and R15.
On the features front, the motorcycle comes equipped with dual-channel ABS and traction control. It uses a simple LCD instrument cluster instead of the more advanced TFT displays found on some of Yamaha’s newer models like the FZ-X Hybrid and FZ-S Fi Hybrid.
The Yamaha XSR155 will be offered in four colour options – blue, greyish green, red and metallic silver – and is available in a single variant.
