Tata Motors is planning to jointly develop engines with Jaguar Land Rover. The Indian automaker plans to utilise the expertise of the British marque in engine development. Currently, the company sources engines from JLR’s previous owner, Ford. The joint development of engines will help Jaguar Land Rover to become independent and self reliant. The company plans to setup a manufacturing plant in China and also plans to increase its assembly operations in India. The companies are not limiting engine development to just fossil fuels and also plan to develop hybrid motors for their future cars.

“To optimize the synergistic strengths between JLR and Tata Motors in India, an examination is also under way on a joint engine development program which would have manufacturing facilities both in the U.K. and India,” Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Sons, said.
