Chevrolet To Launch Camaro In India

General Motors had showcased the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible at the recently concluded 2012 Auto Expo. This is not the first time the Camaro has made its way to India, at the 2010 Auto Expo, the Bumblebee edition of the Chevrolet Camaro SS was showcased. Now GM is considering the introduction of the Camaro in India. This muscle car will serve as a brand builder for GM, which has not been accepted well in the premium segments. The right hand drive version of the Camaro will be brought in as a completely built unit and will be priced around Rs. 50 lakhs. GM already sells the Camaro in RHD form in the UK and Australia, with prices starting at Rs. 26 lakhs (€38,900). GM does not intend to sell many units of the pony car and will allocate around 50 units in the initial lot.

Chevrolet Camaro Interior

The Chevrolet Camaro is powered by a 6.2-litre LS3 V8 engine, which produces 432 HP of power and 569 Nm of torque. This helps the Camaro to hit 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds (for the coupe) and 5.4 seconds for the convertible. This engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. For India, we will get the automatic version, which is powered by a 6.2-litre L99 V8 engine, which produces 405 HP of power and 556 Nm of torque. The Chevrolet Camaro automatic takes 0.2 seconds more to reach 100 km/h. All the versions of the Camaro are limited to a top speed of 250 km/h. The Camaro rides on 20-inch wheels and competes with the Ford Mustang internationally.

    • amx

LOL! Are you really comparing Avanti with Camaro? What on earth! Get some knowledge on cars dude!

    • Sidd

I have knowledge I was just commenting and gm should condsider Indian assambly

    • Faisal

Sidd, Indian assembly does not even happen to the Captiva yet, so Camaro no chance.

    • Richdad

DC Avanti is a very good sports car and is priced very well.

  • Kamal

It would probably be a first proper muscle car and I think Indian’s would love the size and street presence. Those V8s sound really good. I would love to see this car on our roads.

Please correct the last line which says “It rides on 20 inches wheels” as there is a repeatition of the same line.

    • Faisal

Thanks Kamal, it has been corrected.

  • Sagar

Are you mad????????????? 50 lac pricing for 405hp?????? Just think once again and post! Or have some resources mentioned here! 405hp is just unbelievable at this price, at this price what you get is around 250-300hp cars here…

    • Faisal

Sagar, when did BHP determine the cost of a car? Do you know the Camaro range starts at Rs. 11 lakhs in the U.S. and the 405 HP Camaro SS is priced at Rs. 16 lakhs?

    • Faisal

Sagar, BHP and price are never inter-related. Do you know the Chevy V8 engines are used by cars even cheaper than the Camaro. GM sells for VFM and if the Camaro costs anymore than where will the Corvette be positioned?

  • amx

    super wow! :)

  • karan

    an automatic camaro……….? c’mon.. this isn’t america…….

    • Faisal

Karan, name one car which costs more than Rs. 30 lakhs and has a manual gearbox.

    • amx

i would prefer a stick version too – bring in the camaro!

  • Dev

    thanks faisal :-)..

    • Faisal Khan

      You are welcome Dev.

  • Zach

I wanted to say first of all I own this car. I have a black 2SS Manuel which has more horse power than the automatic and mine has additional horse power because of a cold air intake so I am sitting right at 450 horse power. I love this car!! Also I could be wrong because I am not sure what GM does in Australia but I believe the only other car to have the LS3 V8 like the Camaro is the base model corvette.

    • Faisal Khan

Zach, what mileage are you getting?

  • jaikumar choudhary

it will beat ever luxry car in India
& it will be the loard of the street

  • niles

    • Faisal Khan

Niles, you can’t as its available in left hand drive and US and importing would result in the price going 2.5 times.

  • Luv Jaiswal

Faisal doesn’t the M5 come in a Manual option too? I’m sure you don’t want me to tell you more about it :) also known as the Purist’s M5.
Anyways, Camaro coming to India is great news! Hope its sales are high which should also attract Dodge and Ford to get out their Ponies to India as well :D

    • Faisal Khan

Luv, M5 comes in manual but is not offered in India.

    • Akash
