General Motors India have imported a unit of the Chevrolet Camaro SS sports car. It is meant for R&D purpose though and India launch is still unknown.

The Chevrolet Camaro SS has a huge fan following worldwide including India

General Motors is struggling hard in the Indian market with its not-so-exciting product lineup and unhonoured after sales service. New product launches from General Motors are nowhere to be seen until 2016 in India unlike the competitors who are planning aggressive lineup of cars in 2015 itself. Having said that, the American carmaker has recently imported a unit of the Chevrolet Camaro in India, which is totally Bizarre. However, the performance oriented muscle car is just imported for R&D purpose.

The specific car imported for R&D is a Chevrolet Camaro SS that is powered by a 6.2-litre V8 engine that churns out 426 BHP of maximum power with 570 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The Camaro SS does 0-100 km/hr stint in under 4 seconds. Don’t expect the V8 muscle to hit the Indian roads anytime soon. Though, General Motors have been teasing the Indian audience with the Camaro and Corvette at a couple of Auto Expo shows.

For the time being, General Motors is testing the Spin MPV in India, which is expected to launch in the near future. Not able to capture the volume segment well in India, General Motors should at least consider building the brand with impressive products in the country. The Cruze has tasted some success in our country and we think General Motors should consider bringing such offerings with some excitement rather than updating the existing lineup with mild tweaks.
