Ford Figo production stopped, to be replaced by the new generation Figo, which will be manufactured at the new Sanand plant in Gujarat with heavy localisation.

Ford Figo Long Term Report
The Ford Figo has been a successful model that was launched in 2010

Making a fresh start in 2015, Ford India has pulled the plug on the Figo hatchback that was launched way back in 2010. The Figo has been the most successful car for the American carmaker in India by all accounts. Thanks to the clever positioning in the lucrative hatchback segment, Ford managed to churn out good volumes with the Figo. Not only that, but it was also quite popular amongst car enthusiasts with its well sorted driving dynamics. Now in order to keep up with the competition, Ford is all set to introduce the next generation Figo and hence the discontinuation in production of the current model.

Throughout the year 2014, the Ford Figo was doing average sales of about 1500 units per month. However, in December 2014, Ford dispatched only 151 units, which makes it clear that the production stopped in November itself. The outgoing model was being produced at Ford’s Tamil Nadu facility. The 2015 Ford Figo will be produced at the new manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat, which has an installed capacity of 6.10 lakh engines and 4.40 lakh vehicles. The trial production of the new hatchback started last month and by next month we believe, the production will be on full swing.

The 2015 Ford Figo is already on sale in the international market and we all are aware of the aggressive styling of the upcoming hatchback. It is in sync with the new Ford design language, which is quite sharp and mature. On the inside, the new Figo will share elements from its elder siblings, the Ford EcoSport and Fiesta. Expect a long list of features and equipment with improved cabin quality. It will be sharing the same platform but with a stiffened chassis, which is good considering the fact that the Figo was a terrific handler with a pliant ride quality.

The outgoing Ford Figo comes with a 1.4-litre diesel and 1.2-litre petrol engine options. The 2015 Ford Figo though is expected to come with a 1.5-litre diesel derived from the Fiesta and EcoSport along with the popular 1.0-litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine. Car buyers are nowadays considering frugal petrol engine options and we hope Ford doesn’t rule out a petrol engine option with the new Figo like they did with the Fiesta facelift. Pricing of the 2015 Ford Figo is expected to be competitive with high localisation. We also expect the discontinuation of the Ford Classic soon, which will be replaced by the compact sedan based on the new Figo.
