2015 Ssangyong Tivoli Launch UK
The SsangYong Tivoli gets no design or equipment upgrades on the diesel version

Mahindra owned SsangYong has updated its newest compact SUV the Tivoli with a diesel engine in the UK. The model that went on sale across the continent earlier this year was available only with a 1.6-litre petrol engine producing 128 PS, but customers now have the option to go for the oil burner as well. With no design or equipment changes over the petrol version, the Tivoli diesel draws power from the new e-XDi160 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine that is tuned to produce 115 PS of power between 3400-4000 RPM and 300 Nm of torque between 1500-2500 RPM. Why this diesel mill is important is that it could also power Mahindra cars in the future.

The new diesel motor comes paired to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, while there is also a 6-speed automatic available as an option. Both units send power to the front wheels alone for now. The powertrain is also frugal returning 65.7 MPG in the UK drive cycle (23.25 km/l), while CO2 emissions are restricted to 113 g/km. The car comes with a towing capacity of 1.5-tonne. Furthermore, the Korean car maker stated that it will be introducing 4WD versions of the Tivoli later this year in the UK and the cars will be covered by a five year unlimited mileage warranty.

While the SsangYong Tivoli is gaining ground in international markets, its Indian launch still remains uncertain especially since parent company Mahindra is concentrating on its own set of compact SUVs for now. The Indian auto giant is all set to launch the TUV300 on 10th September and will introduce the S101 (codename) compact SUV later in the timeline. The Tivoli if launched in the country will be taking on a host of offerings including the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Maruti S-Cross among others. With the Scorpio and XUV500 also plying in a similar price band, it needs to be seen if Mahindra will actually bring the model to the sub-continent.
