The upcoming Tata Hexa will be replacing the Aria in the company’s lineup as its new crossover and could make its debut at the 2016 Auto Expo.
Unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year, the Hexa crossover is the next biggie planned by Tata Motors that will be replacing the dud selling Aria in the near future. Keeping track of the development, the Indian auto giant has commenced the real world road tests on the Hexa crossover and the model was recently caught during one of its test runs wearing heavy camouflage on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The Hexa seems as promising right from the time the concept was showcased and is expected to pickup sales more effectively when compared to its predecessor.
Expected to go on sale next year, the Hexa will be retaining a host of design elements from the concept model and will come loaded with projector headlamps, LED DRLs, bold front fascia with a large honeycomb mesh grille and a large air intake below. The crossover is massive in proportions measuring 4764 mm in length, 1895 mm in width and 1780 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2850 mm, making for an imposing profile. The camouflaged test mule retained the 19-inch alloy wheels seen on the concept, while the rear is expected to get new LED tail lights in the horizontal pattern.
In terms of powertrain, the 2016 Tata Hexa crossover will use a 2.2-litre VARICOR turbo-diesel engine that will produce 154 BHP of power and 400 Nm of torque. The motor will come paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox, sending power to all four wheels via the optional 4WD with the Terrain Response feature. The automaker has promised a host of material quality upgrades inside the cabin with soft-touch plastic, leather upholstery, along with a bunch of safety tech including ABS, ESP and six airbags as well as a host of connectivity options. The first impressions of the Hexa definitely seem promising and we do hope Tata sticks to its word with the production spec model that could be unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo.
