The 2016 Ford Endeavour has been caught at ARAI alongside the Ford Mustang, ahead of its launch which is expected to take place in India this festive season.
The 2016 Ford Endeavour which had started retailing in Thailand some three months back is expected to make an entry into the Indian market soon. With competition in the premium SUV space all due for facelifts or new models, Ford’s upcoming SUV looks like a very promising product in the segment. All Ford needs to do is price the product well so that it can give stiff competition to the segment king, the Toyota Fortuner. The third generation Endeavour (known as the Everest in other Asian markets) was spotted alongside the Mustang muscle car at ARAI in Pune, both cars are there for homologation.
Ford had imported four units of the 2016 Endeavour to India from Thailand in the month of February for various research and testing purposes and the black unit spotted in the above picture is one of them. When launched in India, the SUV will be powered by two engines – a 3.2-litre TDCi, five-cylinder diesel engine which churns out 200 PS of power and 470 Nm of torque and a smaller 2.2-litre TDCi, four-cylinder unit that belts out 160 PS of power and 385 Nm of torque. Expected to launch in two-wheel and four-wheel drive configuration, power will be transferred to the wheels through either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Features are expected to be in abundance and the bullish looking SUV will come with Ford’s SYNC 2 infotainment system which has an 8-inch touchscreen unit and voice commands, with a 10-speaker audio system which has an in-built sub-woofer. The vehicle’s design (which is a very important factor in India) and other known characteristics gets a big thumbs up. The American giant just needs to market the product well, something that the company did not manage to do well with the Fiesta sedan. Prices are expected to be northwards of Rs. 25 lakhs (ex-showroom) and the new Ford Endeavour will indeed give stiff competition to all other SUVs in the segment.
