2018 Honda Amaze launched in India, prices start from Rs. 5.59 lakhs.

2018 Honda Amaze Features
The 2018 Amaze is longer, wider and shorter than the outgoing model with 65 mm longer wheelbase

The 2018 Honda Amaze has been launched in India with prices starting at Rs. 5.59 lakhs (ex-showroom). Do note that these are the introductory prices applicable for the first 20,000 customers only. The second generation Amaze made its India debut at the 2018 Auto Expo earlier this year and is available in four trims – E, S, V and VX. The Japanese carmaker will also launch the next-generation Civic and CR-V in India this year.

In terms of styling, the 2018 Honda Amaze is as different as chalk and cheese when compared to the previous generation model. The front fascia gets a thick chrome grille (called Solid Wing Face Chrome Grille) as seen in other big Honda cars while the design of the headlights and the LED DRLs are reminiscent of the WR-V. The side and the rear profile also see major revisions. The compact sedan gets a new set of 15-inch alloy wheels and C-shaped split tail-lights. Overall, few will appreciate the new Amaze while few will dislike it for its boxy proportions. Talking about proportions, the Amaze now measures 3995 mm, 1695 mm and 1501 mm in length, width and height respectively. Wheelbase is up by 65 mm to 2470 mm.

The interiors of the new Amaze too are completely revamped. There is a new dual-tone black and beige dashboard with a new 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel, instrument cluster with MID display and a 7-inch DIGIPAD 2.0 touchscreen infotainment system. The 1.57-inch MID display features an odometer, trip meter, clock, shift range, fuel consumption meter, fuel gauge and outside temperature. Other features on offer include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, cruise control, automatic climate control, push-button start, rear parking camera with sensors, electrically foldable and adjustable ORVMs.

Powering the 2018 Honda Amaze are the same 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol and slightly reworked 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engines as seen in the previous generation car. The 1.2-litre petrol makes 90 PS of power at 6000 RPM and 110 Nm of torque at 4800 RPM. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual as well as a CVT automatic gearbox. The oil-burner churns out 100 PS of power at 3600 RPM and 200 Nm of torque at 1750 RPM. The diesel mill gets a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard while there is also an optional CVT automatic gearbox on offer (India is the first market to get Honda’s diesel CVT engine-gearbox combination). The combination of CVT and a diesel engine is a first-in-the-segment and the power and torque figures for the diesel-CVT are down by 20 PS and 40 Nm respectively.

The 2018 Honda Amaze rivals the Maruti Dzire, Tata Tigor, Volkswagen Ameo, Hyundai Xcent and Ford Aspire and comes with best-in-class warranty of 3 years/unlimited kms. Honda is also offering an AMC (Annual Maintenance Package) with the new Amaze as well. The per year cost for the petrol version is Rs. 3500/- and Rs. 4900/- for the diesel version.
