In a series of safety crash tests conducted by Euro NCAP, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler which was also one of the vehicles being tested received a 1-star rating for safety. Some of the factors resulting in this low rating are that the 2018 Jeep Wrangler comes only with a seatbelt reminder and a simple driver-set speed limiter. With respect to other vehicles sold in the European market, these facilities do not match up to the standards. Other safety equipment includes driver and passenger airbags, side head airbags, and side chest airbags.

This comes as a surprise when considering that the Jeep Compass just received a 5-star rating. The Euro NCAP has multiple assessment methods to identify how safe the car is. A point on the report about the Wrangler talked about how the connection between the A-pillar and the trans-facia beam was damaged to a point where it indicated that the structure wouldn’t be able to endure higher loads. Another part of the report talked about how the deformation of the footwell showed the limit of the structure’s integrity.

The dummy readings of the full-width rigid barrier test showed marginal protection of the driver when the Wrangler was crash-tested. Similarly, the dummy readings for the rear passenger showed weak protection of the neck and chest when combined with the high shoulder-belt loads. However, the Wrangler scored maximum points for good protection of all critical body areas when the vehicle was put through the side barrier test.

Michiel van Ratingen, secretary general, Euro Ncap stated, “It is truly disappointing to see a brand-new car being put on sale in 2018 with no autonomous braking system and no lane assistance. It is high time we saw a product from the FIAT-Chrysler group offering safety to rival its competitors.”
