Rumours have it that the Swift Sport & Hybrid will also be launched after their conventional counterparts

The Maruti Swift is among the most successful products our auto industry has witnessed with the second-gen model going from strength to strength after an epic success story carved by the first-gen Swift. Since the car has become a household name in the country, its replacement in the form of the 2018 Swift certainly has big shoes to fill. Authorised dealers have started accepting 2018 Maruti Swift bookings unofficially as the launch date is nearing.

Maruti Suzuki dealers are accepting varying booking amounts for the third-gen Swift which is expected to hit our shores in a month’s time. With the stocks of the current Swift running out fast, dealers claim that the bookings will be shifted to the new model as and when it is available. Speculating an exceptionally good demand for the 2018 Swift, some dealers are committing a tentative delivery date of around March 2018.

The 2018 Swift was spied recently without any camouflage at an ad shoot and the car sported styling bits from the international model except the smaller dual-tone alloy wheels. Utilising the same HEARTECT platform as the Baleno, the new Swift will be lighter than the outgoing car which will help it deliver better on fuel efficiency and performance aspects. Feature list is expansive consisting of projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED tail lamps and a SmartPlay infotainment unit.

Engine options, comprising of 1.2-litre petrol & 1.3-litre diesel motors, will be carried over with the addition of an AMT gearbox alongside the regular 5-speed manual transmission. The third-gen Swift will feature an all-black cabin with a similar layout as the Maruti Dzire. Prices are speculated to be hiked by around 5% variant-to-variant over the outgoing generation. The 2018 Swift will go against the likes of Ford Figo & Hyundai Grand i10.
