Honda City has become a brand over the years with a good customer base

2020 Honda City has been launched with the car’s price beginning from Rs. 10.90 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The latest generation of the popular sedan comes with more features, updated styling and improved quality.

Styling of the car has changed for the fifth generation, with the front now getting slim LED headlights that extend to the fenders.

A big chrome bar with the Honda badge connects them, while the DRLs are also LED. The ORVMs are placed behind the A-pillar to reduce blind spots.

A strong shoulder line runs along the side of the car from front to back and a similar line can be witnessed at the lower part of the doors. The wheel arches have a slight bulge and house 16-inch wheels.

The rear of the car gets LED tail lamps and a neatly integrated bumper. In all, the 2020 Honda City looks clean and sharp and, from certain angles, resembles the Civic.

Inside, the dashboard looks well put together with ergonomics sorted out. It gets a dual-tone finish with wooden inlay that runs across, while the AC vents get a metallic surround.

There is a new steering wheel, instrument cluster with a 7-inch TFT LCD with changeable lighting and an 8-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Features on the City include auto headlamps, a sunroof, auto-dimming IRVM, auto up-down for all four power windows, paddle-shifters (CVT petrol), ambient lighting, keyless-go, rear sunshade, multi-angle rearview camera and LaneWatch camera.

Honda Connect connected car feature is present in the City along with crash notification, location tracking, speed alerts, service scheduler, roadside assistance, fuel alert, battery alert, tyre pressure alert, etc.

The car also gets Alexa connectivity with which the boot can be accessed, voice command activation, remote AC and light activation, among others.

The 2020 Honda City is 109 mm longer, 53 mm wider and 6 mm shorter than its predecessor. The wheelbase is 2600 mm, boot space 506 litres, while the whole car is marginally lighter.

Two engines are on offer with the sedan. The new 1.5-litre i-VTEC DOHC petrol unit produces 121 PS and 145 Nm of torque, by using Variable Valve Timing Control. It is mated to a 6-speed manual and a 7-step CVT.

The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre motor that produces 100 PS and 200 Nm and is mated with a 6-speed manual.

Suspension duties are carried out by McPherson struts at the front and torsion beam bar at the rear. Disc brakes are offered only at the front with the rear being drums.

Safety features in the 2020 Honda City are six airbags, ABS, EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts, Vehicle Stability Assist, Agile Handling Assist, Hill Start Assist and TPMS. The sedan received a 5-star rating at the ASEAN NCAP crash test.

It will compete against the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento and the Toyota Yaris.
