Maruti will not offer the 2020 Vitara Brezza with a 1.3-litre diesel motor.

Maruti Vitara Brezza Long Term
The automatic variants will get Maruti’s Smart Hybrid tech

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is most likely to be seen in a new petrol-powered avatar at the 2020 Auto Expo on 5th February. The compact-SUV will get a BS6-compliant 1.5-litre petrol powertrain that already propels the Ertiga and the Ciaz. The engine churns out 105 PS @ 6000 RPM and 138 Nm of torque at 4600 RPM. Keeping its word that the company will bid adieu to diesel engines, Maruti will not offer this popular offering with the 1.3-litre diesel motor. It will be interesting to see how the sales chart reflects the absence of a diesel-automatic variant of the car.

The new Maruti Vitara Brezza will be offered with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor to complement the 1.5-litre petrol engine. The automatic variants will also get the company’s economic Smart Hybrid tech. As a result, the manual variants will miss out on certain features such as a start-stop system to keep the prices aggressive. The compact SUV will not feature ESP but will come with a hill-hold assist feature.

Not just the heart, the new Vitara Brezza will boast a new face as well. It will get larger fog-lamp housings while the turn indicators will be positioned at the main headlamp unit. While the headlamp shape remains the same, the inserts are all-new with chrome bits and a large LED daytime running lamp positioned at the bottom. A slightly wider chin split in 2 sections, will be a fresh change on the car.

The refreshed compact SUV will also get faux skid plates for its front and rear bumpers, all-black alloy-wheels for mid-spec variants, and diamond-cut alloy wheels for the top-spec ZXI+ trim that will also come with LED fog lamps. At the back, the revised tail-lamp inserts will get LED bits. Even the turn-indicator bulb might be an LED unit too.

The 2020 Vitara Brezza will be offered will 2 new body paint options as well – Sizzling Red and Torque Blue. The dual-tone variants will couple Granite Grey with an orange roof, Sizzling Red with a black roof and Torque Blue with a black roof. Higher variants will also feature power-folding wing mirrors and a compact roof antenna as well as wireless charging- a first for any Maruti Suzuki vehicle.

Coming to the cabin, the 2020 Vitara Brezza will feature the new SmartPlay Studio infotainment system seen in all the new Maruti Suzuki models. The screen will also double as a display for the reverse camera, which will be standard on the top-spec variant. Higher variants will get a leather-wrapped steering wheel and an auto-dimming rearview mirror as standard as well.

Keeping in mind the BS6 upgrades, the 2020 Maruti Brezza will not be priced cheaper than the outgoing model. On top of that, the compact SUV will not get excise benefits offered to petrol-powered sub-4 metre vehicles due to its engine size.

The 2020 Maruti Vitara Brezza will continue to rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, the Mahindra XUV300 and the Ford EcoSport in their petrol iterations.
