2021 Maruti Celerio Design Patent
The car will literally be all-new

2022 Maruti Celerio to come with Baleno RS’ engine but without the turbo

Looks like Maruti Suzuki will be fitting a new engine in its 2022 Celerio urban runabout, set to be introduced in the market next month, in pursuit of more fuel economy.

The new engine in question is the 3-cylinder 1.0-litre K10C DualJet petrol motor that has powered many of Suzuki’s overseas products including the first-generation Celerio.

This same engine also did duty in the Baleno RS previously sold in India (for a short while). But, it had a turbocharger strapped to it. The new Celerio will get the naturally aspirated version of the 3-pot mill.

Until now, it was believed that the new Celerio will come with the engine options offered with the Wagon R. But, this new revelation has made clear that only the 1.0-litre K10C motor will power the hatchback.

It will be unveiled on 10th November, 2021

As is well known, the DualJet technology in the new 2022 Maruti Celerio engine refers to the usage of 2 fuel injectors for each cylinder. Thanks to this tech, the new generation Celerio could well become one of the most fuel efficient hatchbacks, as it is expected to return around 26 km/l.

It should also have a bit more power than its predecessor whose K10B motor makes 67 BHP and 90 Nm. Whereas, the same model fitted with the K10C motor in overseas markets made 1 more horsepower and 4 more torques.

Maruti will offer both 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT with the hatchback that is an all-new product based on the HEARTECT platform.
