Volkswagen has revealed the new 2022 Multivan, which will serve as the replacement for the Caravelle, with latest styling details and more practicality.

Based on the German marque’s MQB platform, the Multivan, says its maker, has design that pays homage to the DNA of its predecessors.

The MPV has been given a new name to reflect the complete overhaul of its predecessor

Seen in this dual tone paint scheme, the MPV comes with LED headlights (can be upgraded to LED matrix lights) connected by a lateral light bar, smaller air intakes, slim A-pillars, a long body and an upright tail section with a large tailgate and LED stop lamps.

Offered in 3 specifications – Multivan, Life, and Style, the MPV, which is available with wheels up to 19 inches in size, can seat up to 7 people. The second row can be turned 180-degrees, while the individual seats in the third row can be removed.

The cockpit area has been completely redesigned and features a new steering wheel, 10.25-inch instrument cluster, 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, a head-up display and 2 USB-C sockets, while other equipment like the Harmon Kardon sound system, Area View, among others are also offered with the MPV.

The German marque has given the model thorough overhaul on the outside and inside

An unique feature that the 2022 Volkswagen Multivan comes with is the removable multi-function table (with storage and cup holders) that can be moved between any of the seating rows.

Thanks to the flat floor and the modular seating arrangement, the boot space with all seats in place is 469-litres which can be extended to 1844-litres after removing the third row.

Interior
A panoramic glass roof, electrically-operated rear hatch, power sliding doors are offered as options

The 2022 Volkswagen Multivan gets 2 petrol powertrains – 136 PS 1.5-litre TSI, 204 PS 2.0-litre TSI – and in eHybrid form comes with a 150 PS 1.4-litre TSI engine coupled with an 85 kW electric motor (218 PS combined output).

A 150 PS turbo diesel will also be offered in overseas markets next year, while the gearbox options include a 7-speed DSG for the ICE-only models and a 6-speed DSG for the plug-in hybrid.

Rear Profile
It has a longer wheelbase and lower, wider profile to reduce fuel consumption

In terms of safety tech, the Multivan features a myriad of driver assist systems including Car2X (the MPV communicates with other vehicles and the highways infrastructure to provide warnings of any oncoming danger) and ‘IQ.DRIVE’ Travel Assist, in addition to the passive safety features.

At this point, it is a given that the German automaker is unlikely to bring the car to India anytime soon.
