2024 Maruti Swift launch confirmed for next month, to get new features & tech

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up for a significant launch next month with the arrival of the all-new Swift. Their bread and butter product is getting a generational shift and is one of the most highly anticipated cars in India this year.

The new Swift, codenamed YED, will get a blend of fresh visual changes, enhanced features and a revamped powertrain. Sitting on the same platform as its predecessor, the upcoming model showcases a sleeker exterior design with subtle changes tailored for the Indian market.

Notable modifications include slightly different front and rear bumpers, a larger number plate housing and unique alloy wheel designs for mid-spec variants compared to the model sold in the international markets.

In terms of safety, the new Swift is expected to raise the bar with standard features such as six airbags, ABS with EBD and ESP, along with three-point seatbelts for rear passengers. However, it’s worth noting that certain features available in international models, like the 360-degree camera, won’t be included in the Indian version.

Under the hood, the highlight is the debut of the Z Series 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, replacing the outgoing K Series variant. This three-cylinder engine, with India-specific tweaks focusing on emissions and efficiency, is likely to deliver similar performance to its predecessor, complemented by mild-hybrid technology for improved fuel economy.

While specific transmission details are yet to be confirmed, it’s anticipated that Maruti will continue offering the 5-speed manual and automated manual transmission (AMT) options, tailored to suit Indian driving conditions.

Following the launch of Swift, Maruti Suzuki will introduce the new generation Dzire as well which will get similar styling. The compact sedan is also expected to come with a sunroof, which will be a segment first feature.
