The 25 top-selling cars in December 2017 chart sees the Maruti Dzire taking the coveted number 1 spot outselling the small car Alto.

25 Top Selling Cars December 2017

December is a month when all the dealerships of almost all car manufacturers start offering huge discounts to clear out stock. For instance, the Hyundai Grand i10 and Honda BR-V had a discount of almost Rs. 1 lakh while Maruti had discounts of up to Rs. 55,000/- for the Swift. Despite the huge discounts, sales have been dull especially when compared to November 2017’s sales.

Skoda’s Rapid (1090 units) and Octavia (243 units) continue to bring volumes and meanwhile, the Kodiaq and Superb sold 192 and 218 units respectively. The Czech automaker is reportedly working on a new budget car for emerging markets and this should probably put the company on track in the Indian market. While the Jeep Compass continues to post healthy volumes for FCA, the Fiat Punto (54 units) and Linea (14 units), being mass-market cars, consistently have been posting paltry double-digit numbers. High-time Fiat gave an update to the duo.

German automaker Volkswagen sold a total of 3335 units with the Polo and Ameo raking in the numbers for the brand. The Passat sold 53 units while the Tiguan managed to find 50 homes. Datsun’s redi-GO, GO and GO+ contribute 1757, 442 and 577 units to Nissan’s overall sales of 3657 units. Nissan’s own Micra hatchback, Sunny sedan and Terrano SUV sold 423, 333 and 125 units respectively in December 2017. American carmaker Ford sold 679 units of the Figo, 2346 units of the Aspire compact sedan and 1733 units of the EcoSport. Meanwhile, the Endeavour saw sales of 326 units.

The recently launched Captur’s sales have been dismal. The crossover sold just 227 units while the Kwid and Duster managed to sell 6953 and 1369 units respectively. Japanese carmaker Toyota slips from fifth to sixth position selling a total of 10,793 units in December. While the Liva, Etios and Fortuner contributed 1209, 1728 and 1591 units to the total sales, Innova accounts for over 50 percent of the brand’s sales. Honda’s Jazz and Amaze sold 1891 and 1415 units respectively while it is the City and WR-V that continue to drive volumes for the company. SUVs BR-V and CR-V sold 880 and 40 units respectively.

Homegrown Tata’s Tiago and Nexon are raking in the numbers while the Tigor, Hexa, Bolt and Zest sold 1270, 1219, 157 and 1237 units respectively. The Sumo sold 494 units and the Safari and Safari Storme sold 301 units in December. While Mahindra’s decade-old workhorses Bolero and Scorpio are still selling in good numbers, the KUV100 sold 1660 units, TUV300 sold 1801 units and the XUV500 sold 1419 units.

Hyundai Verna’s sales have dipped when compared to the competition. The company’s premium cars, Elantra and Tucson saw 114 and 156 homes respectively. Leaving aside the Ignis (1686 units), Ciaz (2382 units) and Gypsy (601 units), rest all Maruti’s cars can be seen on the list above. Maruti sold a total of 1,18,560 units in December 2017.
