2012 Bajaj Discover 125ST Front

Bajaj Auto’s flagship Discover model, the Discover 125 ST has been silently discontinued from the Indian market. Launched in May 2012, the 125 ST was targeted at the enthusiasts on a budget. However the overpriced motorcycle could not sustain in a price sensitive market, forcing Bajaj to stop the sales of the motorcycle in the country. The company however will continue to manufacture the 125 ST for the export markets.

Another contributing factor to the dismal sales of the Discover 125 ST was the high rear seat which made it difficult for the pillion to be seated. The Discover 125 ST is powered by a 124.6cc, 4-valve, twin-spark, air-cooled engine that produces 13 PS at 9000 RPM and 10.7 Nm at 7000 RPM, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The sporty Discover also came with telescopic front forks and Nitrox monoshock setup at the rear. Bajaj also equipped the bike with a 200 mm front disc brake and a 130 mm drum brake setup at the rear. Interestingly, there was no front drum brake option on offer.

The Discover 125 ST was priced at Rs. 53,730/- (ex-showroom, Pune) making it the most expensive Discover on offer. With the 125 ST gone, the Discover 125 series comprises of two models namely the Discover 125M and Discover 125T. The Discover series brings in a major chunk of volumes for Bajaj Auto in the country, and the company managed to retail a total of 72,213 units of the brand in the country in March 2014. With the 125 ST gone, are we getting close to the launch of the Discover 150 quarter-fairing that was spied testing a few weeks back.
