Bajaj Chetak C2501 launched – affordable, lightweight entry-level electric scooter
Bajaj has added a new entry-level model to its Chetak electric scooter range with the launch of the C2501, priced at Rs. 91,399/- (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). The new variant targets buyers looking for a more affordable and lighter EV while retaining the signature Chetak styling.
Battery, performance and charging
The C2501 uses a 2.5kWh floor-mounted battery, with Bajaj claiming a range of 113 km on a full charge. A 750W off-board charger is supplied and a 0-100% charge is claimed to take around 3 hours and 45 minutes.
Power is delivered via a hub-mounted motor – used for the first time on a Chetak – which produces 1.8kW continuously and 2.2kW at peak. The claimed top speed is 55 km/hr, positioning the scooter among lower-speed urban commuter EVs.
Design, chassis and dimensions
While visually recognisable as a Chetak, the C2501 is more compact than the existing variants. Suspension duties are handled by a telescopic fork at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear, replacing the leading link/monoshock configuration used on higher variants. A front disc brake is standard.
The scooter weighs 108 kg and has a 763 mm seat height, making it one of the lighter mainstream electric scooters on sale from a major manufacturer. Exterior differences include a round LED headlamp, revised rear section with an integrated tail-lamp and indicators and black plastic mirrors. Six colour options are available: green, white, black, grey, red and yellow.
Features and equipment
Despite its positioning, the C2501 includes several convenience features such as:
- Reverse LCD display with Bluetooth support (call alerts and music controls)
- Eco and Sport riding modes
- Reverse assist and hill-hold
- USB charging port
- Small storage cubby on the front apron
- 25-litre underseat storage
- Parking brake lock clasp
- Flush-fitting pillion footrests
A three-year / 50,000 km warranty is standard.
Positioning and rivals
At its price point, the C2501 sits below most established electric scooters in India. Direct rivals include the TVS iQube 2.2 and Vida VX2 Go, placing the new Bajaj as one of the most accessible offerings from a mainstream two-wheeler manufacturer.
