BMW has launched the 3-Series Gran Limousine with a starting price tag of Rs. 51.50 lakhs (ex-showroom).

The long-wheelbase version of the 3-Series sedan is locally produced and comes in 330Li (petrol) and 320Ld (diesel) variants with 2 design schemes namely – Luxury and M Sport (First Edition).

The exterior design of the new BMW 3-Series Gran Limousine uses a combination of contoured surfaces, long bonnet, set-back passenger compartment and short overhangs.

It is long, measuring 4829 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2961 mm. There is 110 mm of extra length added to the wheelbase, 43 mm of which has resulted in addition legroom for rear seat occupants.

Upfront, the large kidney grille is flanked by LED headlights with DRLs, while the bonnet has 4 contour lines. Along the sides, the familiar Hofmeister kink can be seen and at the rear there are L-shaped LED taillights and twin exhaust outlets.

Inside, BMW 3-Series Gran Limousine price will get customers a luxurious ambience with BWM claiming to have used exquisite materials to keep comfort levels high.

Rear seats are newly designed, while the seats are wrapped in Vernasca leather upholstery offered with 2 colour choices. Different wood interior trim also is offered based on the variant chosen, and the feature list is pretty long too.

There is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, iDrive, 3D navigation, wireless smartphone charging, 16-speaker Harman Kardon Surround Sound system, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity, to name a few.

In addition, there is a panoramic sunroof, sports leather steering wheel, 3-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting, BMW ConnectedDrive with Live Cockpit Professional, Virtual Assistant, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well.

BMW says the 3-Series Gran Limousine has agile handling characteristics and superior braking performance. The car has a 25 percent stiffer body, 50:50 axle load distribution and a new suspension system using lift-related dampers.

Engine-wise, the BMW 3-Series Gran Limousine can be had either with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol or diesel units. The petrol engine with twin-scroll turbocharger puts out 258 HP and 400 Nm and the diesel motor (which makes use of 2 turbos) makes 190 HP and 400 Nm. Both come mated to an 8-speed transmission.

Due to the higher power output, the petrol variant does the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 6.2 seconds, while the diesel model takes 7.6 seconds. But, the claimed fuel economy for the 330Li model is 15.3 km/l while the 320Ld returns 19.62 km/l.

To offer some thrill to drivers, there are driving modes (Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport, Sport+) and launch control on offer, with Eco Pro even allowing the vehicle to coast up to speeds of 160 km/hr by shutting down the engine.

Furthermore, the car comes with various driver assistance systems such as Parking Assistant with reversing assist, Park Distance Control (PDC) and rear view camera and cruise control with braking function.

Under the BMW EfficientDynamics banner the model comes with auto start/stop, brake energy regeneration and an active kidney grille, while safety technologies offered with the car include 6 airbags, Attentiveness Assistance, ABS with Brake Assist, DSC including DTC, CBC, electric parking brake and more.

Colour options offered on the luxury car include Mineral White, Melbourne Red, Cashmere Silver and Carbon Black and it comes with 17-inch alloys (225/50-section rubber) for the Luxury Line and 18-inch double-spoke alloys (225/45 front and 255/40 rear tyres) in the M Sport (First Edition) variant.
