Hero is working on a fully faired motorcycle based on its 200cc platform, may carry the Karizma name.
Hero MotoCorp is planning to launch a fully-faired motorbike. This upcoming motorbike will have the same 200cc motor as seen on the Hero Xtreme 200R. This will be Hero’s 4th motorbike based on the 200cc platform. Out of the other three, Xtreme 200R has already been launched while XPulse 200 and XPulse 200T will be launched in early 2019. There is a good chance that the 4th motorbike will carry the Karizma tag.
There is little to be offered in terms of details but it is expected that the motorbike will use the same engine and underpinnings as the Xtreme 200R. The diamond type frame suspended on 37 mm front telescopic forks and preload adjustable monoshock might be carried over to the new motorbike. However, the engine will be offered in a more powerful state of tune. In the Xtreme 200R, the 200cc single-cylinder, air-cooled motor produces 16.4 BHP of power and 17.1 Nm of torque. For the new motorbike, a slight bump in power is expected along with different gearing and fuel injection.
Other components that are to be shared between the two motorbikes include the 276 mm front disc, 220 mm rear disc, single-channel ABS, 100/80/R17 front and 130/70/R17 rear tyres. The faired motorbike might also get an all-digital instrument console, clip-on handlebars and LED headlamps to make it more sporty.
The most interesting takeaway is that the new motorbike might carry the ‘Karizma’ nameplate. Launched in 2003, the original Karizma was a huge hit among the enthusiasts in the country and was one of the sportiest motorbikes available. However, the later generations could not mimic the original’s success. With the new faired motorcycle, Hero will have a worthy successor to the original Karizma.
In this segment, the Bajaj Pulsar RS200 and the Yamaha YZF-R15 V3 are the only offerings. Given Hero’s aggressive pricing, the upcoming motorbike is likely to be priced around Rs. 1-1.5 lakhs. The launch date is expected in the second half of 2019.
