Piaggio plans to introduce 150cc bikes via Aprilia to compete with Bajaj, KTM, TVS and Yamaha.

Piaggio is planning to launch its first 150cc motorcycle under the Aprilia brand in 2020, with the launch following the imminent arrival of three other models. The company plans to enter the budding 125cc-150cc branch of the motorcycle industry with the Aprilia brand to give a tough fight to Bajaj, KTM, TVS Motor, and Yamaha, with the respective companies having their 150cc bikes in the market already.

Company officials have said that they will focus on the premium range of the motorcycles that they will be bringing into the market. The manufacturing of the 150cc bikes is expected to start in the next 12-15 months, with the launch of four motorcycles under the Aprilia name.

The Aprilia RS 150 sports bike and the Tuono 150 street bike were two concept bikes displayed by Piaggio at the 2018 Auto Expo. As per the company, these concept motorcycles received a lot of praise and that the bikes which are expected to be launched in India will be based on these concepts. The production model of the sports bike will be in the 150cc segment, the street bike will have a bigger displacement engine.

Piaggio plans to enter the 125cc-150cc mass segment of motorcycles by pricing its bikes between Rs. 80,000-1,50,000/-, with Piaggio also selling about a dozen bikes in the 800cc-1200cc range, that are imported as Completely Built Units (CBU).
