Audi SQ8 launched in India with V8 power and premium features
Audi India has expanded its performance SUV portfolio with the launch of the SQ8, priced at Rs. 1.78 crores (introductory, ex-showroom). Positioned between the standard Q8 and the range-topping RS Q8, the new variant aims to offer a balance of performance and luxury within the Q8 lineup. Bookings for the SUV are now open.
Performance and Powertrain
The SQ8 is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, derived from the RS Q8 but tuned for lower output. In this configuration, it produces 507 HP and 770 Nm of torque, which is lower than the RS version but still places it among the more powerful SUVs in its segment.
Power is delivered to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission and Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system. The SQ8 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in a claimed 4.1 seconds, with the top speed electronically limited to 250 km/hr.
To enhance driving dynamics, the SUV comes equipped with adaptive air suspension, rear-wheel steering, a sport differential and active roll stabilisation.
Exterior Design
Visually, the SQ8 retains the coupe-like silhouette of the standard Q8 while incorporating sportier elements. It features Matrix LED headlamps, larger air intakes and silver accents on the grille and bumper.
On the side, the SUV rides on 21-inch alloy wheels as standard, with the option to upgrade to 22-inch units. Chrome detailing around the window line adds contrast to the overall design.
At the rear, the SQ8 gets connected OLED tail-lamps, a roof-mounted spoiler and a distinctive diffuser with quad exhaust outlets. The model is available in a range of colour options, including Ascari Blue, Daytona Grey and Glacier White.
Interior and Features
Inside, the SQ8 largely mirrors the layout of the standard Q8, featuring an all-black cabin with subtle ‘S’ badging. The dashboard houses a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen and a secondary 8.6-inch touchscreen for climate controls.
The SUV is equipped with features such as a Bang & Olufsen sound system, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, soft-close doors and powered front seats with memory function.
Safety and Technology
In terms of safety, the SQ8 comes with eight airbags, a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring and a tyre pressure monitoring system. It also includes a Level 2 ADAS suite, adding advanced driver assistance capabilities.
Positioning and Rivals
With a price gap of Rs. 65 lakhs over the standard Q8 and Rs. 56 lakhs below the RS Q8, the SQ8 is positioned as a middle-ground performance SUV. It competes with models such as the Mercedes-AMG GLE Coupe and Porsche Cayenne GTS in the Indian market.
