Bajaj Pulsar 250 under works, the UG6 next-generation Pulsar range likely to be launched in 2019.

The Pulsar 150 will be the entry point to the Pulsar range of bikes from 2019; 135cc variant likely to be discontinued

We’re all aware that Bajaj is working on the next-generation UG6 Pulsar and it was also reported that the company is also considering to introduce a 250cc Pulsar. The new BS-6 compliant Pulsar range is likely to be launched in India sometime in 2019 and will get features like FI, monoshock and ABS.

The UG6 Pulsar range’s engine platform is said to have scalability starting from 150cc to 250cc and this could be one of the reasons for the automaker to consider a 250cc version of the Pulsar. Moreover, the addition of a 250cc player in the segment will also revive the nascent 250cc space in India currently dominated by the likes of Yamaha FZ25 and KTM Duke 250.

Bajaj currently sells the Pulsar 135, 150, 180 and 220 but all of these might not make it to 2019. The company will retain the 150cc and 220cc variants as they continue to sell like hotcakes but the 135cc and 180cc variants are likely to be discontinued. Reason, the Pulsar 135 is a slow-seller while the Pulsar 180 is the least relevant Pulsar in India today. Also, the Pulsar 180 does not perfectly bridge the gap between the Pulsar 150 (the 2018 model offers similar equipment) and the Pulsar NS 160 (offers similar kind of performance).

Another interesting thing is that the positioning of the Pulsar 250 could pose a threat to the Pulsar RS 200 which makes us believe that Bajaj could leave behind the 200cc and move to the 250cc and launch the Pulsar NS 250 and RS 250 to rival the Yamaha’s 250cc naked street fighter FZ25 and the fully-faired sports tourer Fazer 25. While many things are unclear, we can’t wait to see how the new Pulsars will be to ride.
