BMW India has quietly launched the base variant of the F10 5-Series. The BMW 520d is priced at Rs. 36,90,000/- (ex-showroom, Delhi) which is cheaper by Rs. 3 lakhs to the 525d. Powered by a 1995cc, 4-cylinder oil burner, the 520d produces 184hp of power at 4000Rpm and 380Nm of torque between 1750-2500Rpm. The new BMW 520d delivers fuel economy of 18.4 kmpl as measured by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for Indian market specifications. Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the 520d losses paddle shifts and 6CD changer (single MP3 CD player comes standard) to the 525d. It also features star spoke alloy wheels instead of the V-spoke found on the higher variants.

The new BMW 520d will be available in a range of ten paint finishes: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Cashmere Silver, Deep Sea Blue, Havanna, Milano Beige, Space Grey, Titanium Silver, Imperial Blue Brilliant Effect and Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect. Individual upholstery designs in Dakota leather will be available in four colours: Black, Vento Beige, Cinnamon Brown/Black, Oyster/Black and Oyster/Oyster Dark. The following interior trims are available: Fine-wood Trim Ash Grain Brown and Fine-wood Trim Fineline Anthracite.
