Chevrolet will be bringing the Spin to India next year, but it will most likely be named as Essentia. The company will be positioning the Essentia as a premium MPV in the country.

Chevrolet wants to market the Essentia as a premium MPV in India

The MPV space now has many capable products from many manufacturers including Maruti, Honda, Toyota, Renault and Chevrolet. Every manufacturer in this segment has relatively been able to taste success in the segment, except for Renault, as the Lodgy is still a new product. Chevrolet was initially doing well when they launched the Tavera, but after a few years, the company lost out in the segment with the product. Chevrolet then later rolled out the Enjoy MPV, which due to its unattractive, boxy styling and lack-lustre features was also a big disappointment.

Chevrolet will be having another go in the promising segment next year with the Spin MPV. But, it seems that General Motors will be naming the Spin as Essentia, specifically for India. The Essentia will be powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine only, which will be able to produce about 90 BHP of power and will come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The MPV will be launched as a premium 7-seater and is expected to be placed above the Chevrolet Enjoy. The vehicle which measures 4360 mm in length, 1735 mm in width and 1683 mm in height, should be priced somewhere between Rs. 9-13 lakhs (on-road). This pricing will make the upcoming MPV compete head-on with the Renault Lodgy and the Toyota Innova.

The Essentia will get features such as an integrated music system with USB, auxiliary input and Bluetooth connectivity, dual front airbags and ABS on the top-end variant. Other basic features include 60:40 split foldable second row seats and 50:50 split foldable third row seats. With the ever so growing competition in the segment, Chevrolet may even add a touchscreen infotainment system with a reverse parking camera in the Essentia.
