Ducati launches Desmo450 MX motocross bike in India at Rs. 17.24 lakhs
Ducati has introduced the Desmo450 MX in India, marking the Italian manufacturer’s entry into the motocross motorcycle segment. The model arrives roughly a year after its global debut and represents Ducati’s first purpose-built dirt bike designed exclusively for off-road racing.
The Desmo450 MX is powered by a newly developed 449.6cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine featuring Ducati’s signature Desmodromic valve system. The engine produces 63.5 HP and 53.5 Nm of torque and revs up to 11,900 RPM, positioning it among the more powerful machines in the motocross category.
Built for competitive off-road riding, the motorcycle uses a lightweight aluminium perimeter frame designed to optimise rigidity while reducing weight. Ducati has minimised the number of welds in the frame construction to enhance strength and overall durability. The bike weighs 104.8 kg (wet without fuel), making it relatively light for a machine in this class.
Suspension duties are handled by fully adjustable Showa components, offering 310 mm of travel at the front and 301 mm at the rear to cope with demanding motocross conditions. Braking is managed by Brembo hardware, consistent with Ducati’s focus on high-performance components.
Despite being a motocross machine, the Desmo450 MX features a range of electronic rider aids. The bike comes equipped with traction control, launch control and engine brake control, along with two riding modes. These parameters can be adjusted via Ducati’s X-Link smartphone application using WiFi connectivity.
As a dedicated track machine, the Desmo450 MX is not road legal and does not come with lighting equipment or mirrors. Ownership also involves race-focused maintenance schedules, including engine oil changes every 15 hours of use, while piston replacement and valve clearance inspections are recommended every 45 hours.
With this launch, Ducati becomes the second European brand to officially offer a full-fledged motocross motorcycle in India after KTM. The KTM 450 SX-F, currently listed at Rs. 10.25 lakhs, remains considerably more affordable. However, its pricing may change following the implementation of the GST 2.0 structure.
Another motocross motorcycle available through official channels in India is the Kawasaki KX450, which is presently priced at Rs. 9.92 lakh. Even with potential price revisions for its rivals, the Ducati Desmo450 MX is expected to remain positioned as a premium option in the segment.
The launch signals Ducati’s intent to expand into new performance-focused categories while bringing specialised racing machines to enthusiasts in India.
